SLOUGH CHESS ACADEMY

Ostrich Chess Club

शतरंज अकादमी

We provide the local community with a place where children can learn to play chess and improve their existing skills while having fun.  Our goal is for children to reach a level that is sufficient enough to compete in chess tournaments and enable them to take advantage of a  plethora of online resources.

Danek School of Chess was founded by Mat Dydak Uramovski, an expert chess player with more than thirty years of tournament experience.  He competes for the Hounslow Chess Club, the Slough Chess Club and the Middlesex County League.  Mat holds a Baccalaureate in Film Production from the Mel Hoppenheim School of Cinema in Montreal and a Postgraduate Certificate in Online Education from the Open University.  He runs school clubs at the Langley Hall Primary Academy,  Castleview School and Cippenham School.

Why play chess? Recent studies have shown that chess has a particularly positive effect on the development of primary school children. These findings have convinced educators in Hungary, Spain and Armenia to officially adopt chess as part of the school curriculum.  A number of private schools in England have taken a similar approach.

Online Classes

Chess, being a board game, is perfectly suited for effective content delivery online.  We use Google Meet in combination with a virtual chess board interface that is free to set up and easy to navigate.  We offer group lessons for beginners and one-to-one lessons for advanced players who are looking to improve their chess rating by combining winning opening theory with sophisticated endgame techniques.

Home Tutoring

You can set up your own  chess group, wait for a placement in an existing group or opt for a one-to-one lesson. We cover areas of Slough, Langley, Staines, Egham, Windsor and Maidenhead.

*Home tuition is only offered for children in Year 1-3.
